| 7" Single Coming Soon
SAN FRANCISCO - The Cubby Creatures are hard at work on a 7" single, due out in late summer 2002. The 7", to be pressed at 45 rpm, has been heralded by bass player Brian Weaver as a "a true California psychedelic masterpiece." Rodent Records, purveyor of psychedelia nouveau, will release the record, marking the second Cubby-Rodent collaboration. With this release, three new songs will join the Cubby Creatures canon: "Tinker Pop," a tribute to neighbor Ben Tinker of the unband concept That Hideous Strength; "Sweet Nothings," sung by Bill and Emily; and "Fly," a Nick Drake cover. "The new Tinker Pop 7" has definite DIY value," says drummer Jason Gonzalez. Bill Fisher elaborates: "We're recording these songs ourselves, using a combination of a 1/2" reel-to-reel 8-track deck and a computer." In addition to recording the band, Bill also gets busy with vocals, keyboards, synths, guitars, and a recorder flute! As usual, Cubby friends will show up in the mix. Shimmer Kid Dave Dunstan makes a special appearance on the record, blowing sax on "Sweet Nothings"; Kevin Clarke, who designed the "Kathy Barra" and "Blessed Invention" album art, will once again conjure visuals; Chantig Greg Turner of Rodent Records handles the production on "Fly"; and Ben Tinker himself will "probably make an appearance" on "Tinker Pop," inside sources reveal. And here's more to listen for: Emily shelving her violin to do vocals with Bill on "Sweet Nothings," and Jason, Karl and Brian lending their voices to "Tinker Pop." Stay tuned to this site for release and availability updates. (RH, 7-02-02) |
