SAP: The Residue of the San Francisco Art Scene was billed as an alternative art fair featuring local artists who were not selected
to be featured at the San Francisco International Art Expo happening the same weekend. Artists were assigned rooms in the then defunct
(and now non-existent) Hawaiian-themed
Lanai Motel
to display their art or to decorate as they saw fit. Additionally bands were booked to perform throughout the day and
into the night on Saturday, October 3rd, in the parking lot of the motel.
The Cubby Creatures were originally slated to perform on Saturday night at 10:30pm, and were intending to debut a new rock operetta
they had written,
A Telethon for the Benefit of Suzie. However, due to potential noise issues that the surrounding neighborhood
denizens became concerned about, the organizers were asked to end all loud music by 6pm. The Cubby Creatures were rescheduled
to perform at 5:30pm thus prohibiting them from making use of the nighttime darkness and showing accompanying flim clips prepared for
their Telethon performance. The Cubbies frantically sent out notices to their friends and fans telling them that they would not be
performing the telethon as intended, but would instead be performing a set of songs earlier in the day. But as the cancellation flyer
below promised,
Suzie would have her day.
