SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cubby Creatures are slated to perform at an all-day benefit for the Film Arts Foundation on Saturday, April 7. Organized by K.C. Smith, FAF's facility manager, the fund raiser is an attempt to recoup losses after a theft that deprived the organization of some of its fanciest and most costly equipment.

The Cubby Creatures' long history with FAF dates back to the late '90s when Karl the clarinetist, then working by day as associate editor for the nonprofit's "Release Print" magazine, tapped into FAF's wealth of exotic fonts for use in early issues of the "Cubby Missalette."

The association continued with the Cubbies' involvement with Mark Taylor, former FAF staffer. His mind-bending film loop projections, made possible in part by FAF, complemented the earliest Cubby shows, not only infusing the proceedings with an extraworldly electricity but also helping distract audiences from the fact that jol could neither sing nor play guitar.

It was an email from FAF web and network administrator Becky Haycox that first alerted the Cubbies to the January equipment theft. Ms. Haycox's film "Megathlon" was featured in episode two of CubbyVision, and she has since appeared on the show, playing herself and Irene Uhehihlhu on episode four.

The Cubby Creatures have been promised beer and unlimited veggie burgers for their participation in the event, a payoff they are very enthusiastic about.
