THE EMBRYO COMPILATIONS
Adventures in Homemade Music
The Embryo Compilations were compiled, assembled and produced by San Francisco musician Brian Weaver (now proprietor of Cubby Control Records) during the years 1997 - 2006. Four compilations were created during that time period, representing music and sounds produced and recorded by the artists and musicians themselves with their own recording equipment. For three of those compilations, release shows were held, featuring many of the artists and musicians on the compilations. The compilations and the shows were comprised of artists and musicians primarily from the San Francisco Bay Area who were actively creating and releasing music and performing either independently or with other Bay Area musicians and bands during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Even today many of those artists and musicians are still creating music. Here you can xplore the artists, bands, photos, flyers, and music from these compilations and shows gathered together from the Cubby Control Records archives. These artifacts represent a small snapshot of the late 1990s/early 2000s San Francisco music scene.

The Embryo compilations began around the same time as The Cubby itself, when Brian Weaver wanted to provide a medium for his and his friends homemade music, music he thought deserved to be liberated the portable recording machines in the bedrooms of these artists. Thusly, the Satanic Embryo 4-track Adventure compilation cassette was born, consisting of tracks by San Francisco musicians Sean Chiki, Andy Peters, Rico D., Joel Perez, Matt M., and Brian Weaver himself, all of whom were members of the bands, Coolidge (SF), The Andy Peters Show, Dolores Haze, Go Go Galaxion, and The Cubby Creatures.
