Five Political Facts and Associations
(by Alex Robertson Textor)
From the Editors...

Why politics, you ask? Well, because these are scary times, what with the Bush administration in charge of the U.S. and all. They seem to be doing everything they can to limit our freedoms and to impose them (or the lack thereof) on other nations. These are trying political times for us all, times when we feel the need to speak out against the injustice in the world and in our own lives, and the Missalette's purpose has always been to provide a medium through which people can express themselves in creative ways.

Politics is not a new topic for the Cubby. We did a "Conspiracy Theories, Stalkers, and Nemeses" issue once (#5), we had a presidential candidate (Ronald Bonemaker--R.I.P.) during the 2000 election, and we've talked about establishing our own Cubby Party.

We were surprised at just how many submissions we got, given the current climate of jingoism and silent fear. While the mainstream media persecuted artists that spoke against the war, while journalists self-censored, and while the president spoke in truncated sound bites, the artists of the Cubby instead wanted to take the opportunity to speak out and get creative. We're happy to report that they did so in some very innovative ways, as you will see when turning the pages.

We hope that you find something in here that will entertain, enlighten or at least amuse you. We'd also like to encourage you to submit something of your own to this neverending online version of the Political Missalette. Yep, that's right--the online Political Missalette will always be accepting submissions, and we'll always be adding to it. So write us something, or draw a picture, or send a comic. We'd love to hear from you!
