The Blessed Invention was The Cubby Creatures' first full-length release and is representative of the period spanning The Cubby Creatures' beginning as a four-piece in 1997, through their addition of clarinetist Karl in 1998, and up to the time when they were a six-piece with keyboardist Bill. Within a year and a half of its release, Cubby co-founder jol would leave the band allowing the Creatures to set off on a new path, refining their music and musical style. The Blessed Invention shows the Cubby Creatures at, perhaps, their most chaotic, unreserved, and freeform.
