March 1, 2017:
Dear Cubby friends, fans and followers, happy new year! OK, well, it's not so new anymore, but I've been running late getting out this new year
news update.
Let me tell you a few things happening here at Cubby Control Records...
*
#Cubby20 *
It was 20 years ago this year
The Cubby Creatures began their career, releasing the first
Missalettes and playing their first show at
Artists'
Television Access in the Mission District of San Francisco. In honor of the 20-year anniversary, I'll be digging through the Cubby Control
Records archives and unveiling some long forgotten, and in some cases, never released gems. To start off, have a listen to The Cubby Creatures
perform on
KALX in August, 1999...
*
Sounds of CCR *
Correspondingly, the current Sound of CCR is "Last Chance" by The Cubby Creatures, originally released in October, 2006 on the
Embryo 4: Homemade Music by Bay Area Musicians compilation and available now for streaming
for the first time in honor of the 20-year anniversary of The Cubby...
*
JCYC *
I know I've been promising this for a few years now, but I really mean it this time --
Jesus Christ, You're Crazy,
the last-recorded but never-released album by The Cubby Creatures, will be released this year.
Jesus Christ, You're Crazy was described
by The Cubby Creatures as "a rock opera/song cycle/post-ironic parable" that tells the story of Jojo who after enduring "a childhood strewn with
insults, comes to a startling conclusion." The CD and packaging will feature the Cubby Creatures' songs along with narration by
K.M. Soehnlein, as well as
incidental music and artwork created by a number of Bay Area musicians and artists.
*
(The Planet of) Progkp and the Hobbitozz zine *
REPTIEL is back in the studio this month to continue work on
(The Planet of) Progkp, their
followup to
Hobbitozz ... A Land That Never Was. And speaking of Hobbitozz, there was
finally a second printing of the Hobbitozz zine, which is now
available for purchase
through the Hobbitozz Website.
