"These Woods Are Haunted" artwork by Rani Goel
Forest Boy experiences his first night in Hobbitozz outside of the woods where he grew up. The nighttime is much darker and more ominous in these parts
than in Forest Boys's neck of the woods, so Forest Boy sings to himself to give himself courage and to convince himself not to be daunted by the spirits
of the night. Perhaps these “spirits of the night” had not yet made their way to his corner of Hobbitozz.
In the choruses the same spirits who have been singing to Forest Boy in the other songs are once again singing to him here. The world of Hobbitozz seems to
contain different types of spirits: the spirits who sing advice and instructions to him and these "spirits of the night" whose shapes of shadow-green appear
from nowhere. Or they could be one and the same, friendly during the day but threatening at night. They mention to him the different paths that lead to nowhere
or to a witch's lair, a direct reference to the following song.
These woods are haunted
These woods are haunted
by the spirits of the night
by the spirits of the night
But don't be daunted
But don't be daunted
by the spirits of the night
by the spirits of the night
Shapes appear from nowhere
Scenes that make you stop and stare
High above you canopies
Shifting things ...
Of Shadow-green
These woods are haunted
These woods are haunted
by the spirits of the night
by the spirits of the night
But don't be daunted
But don't be daunted
by the spirits of the night
by the spirits of the night
Some paths lead to nowhere
Some paths lead to witch’s lair
All above you canopies
Shifting scenes ...
In Neon-green
